Appearance: Most notable are his silver hair and sea-green eyes. At one point, Riku dons the Organization XIII coat, as well as a blindfold, which suppressed the use of darkness. Later, he wears jeans, a sleeveless high collared black zip-up tee, as well as a sleeveless vest. Quite muscular in built.
Timeline: Near end game of KH2, right after DiZ| Ansem the Wise dies, but before he wakes up in his original form.

Born on a small set of islands, also known as Destiny Islands, Riku grew up with his best friend Sora. Later on, a young girl Kairi appeared on the islands as well. Although both were a year younger than Riku, the trio grew to become close friends. As Riku grew older, his desire to journey and see the other worlds also grew, imparting some of this desire to Sora and to a lesser degree Kairi.

Whether Riku knew at the time or not, he called darkness to his home islands after opening the door, causing Destiny Islands to be effectively destroyed. However, his journey only went further into darkness. At first distrustful of the witch Maleficent, he quickly sided with, fueled by the feelings of jealousy and being abandoned by Sora, as well as the need to help bring back Kairi's heart. Unable to understand why, he only went further down, until his body and mind became possessed by one known as Ansem.

Using Riku's body as a host, having lost his own, Ansem opened the heart of all worlds, in order to find and reach Kingdom Hearts. Riku was able to regain control over his body momentarily, in a last effort to help his friends, whom he had made suffer. The effects of this were that he no longer had a body, Ansem finally taking full control of his body. During Sora's battle with Ansem, Riku spoke to Sora when he was losing strength, giving him the motivation to return to battle. Even though Ansem was defeated, Kingdom Hearts was now open, and Sora and his companions were finding themselves unable to close it. Riku appears from the inside, aiding to close the door alongside King Mickey. Saying a few words as a farewell, Riku and King Mickey were lost to Sora and co.

While inside, a voice, later identified as DiZ disguised himself as Ansem and guided Riku to Castle Oblivion. With the help of King Mickey's hologram, Riku fought his way towards the top of the castle, trying to fight the darkness in his heart as well. Namine, pretending to be Kairi, saved Riku when he was about to give into the darkness. Turning down her offer to chain away his darkness and Ansem, he set off with King Mickey to make preperations and await the awakening of Sora. Soon, he disappeared from Mickey's side, and made his way to DiZ.

Upon reaching DiZ, Riku had already begun wearing his blindfold and Organization jacket. The blindfold, was actually part of Riku's preperations to utilize the power of darkness he held. Namine and the pod of the sleeping Sora were also with DiZ. He was quickly sent off to retrieve the Organization member XIII, Roxas, who Riku was able to easily and quickly affirm as the nobody of Sora. On the verge of losing the battle, Riku cast off his blindfold, taking on Ansem's shape, as well as power. With this, he overpowered Rocas, and took him back to the Twilight Town Manor, where he slowly became one again with Sora, causing his sleeping self to awaken. DiZ ordered Riku to terminate Namine, who was no longer needed. Instead, he took Namine and let her go with Axel, in return for her help at the Castle Oblivion. He then set off journeying through the worlds, hidden, helping his two friends from the shadows. When Kairi is kidnapped by the Organization XIII to lure Sora, Riku uses the opportunity to infiltrate and destroy the remaining members. Instead he interferes with Sai'x trying to recapture Kairi. After Namine announces that he is, in fact, Riku, Kairi takes Riku's hood off to reveal the form he is stuck in, Ansem's. He proceeds on with Kairi and soon reunite with Sora. Unaware, Sora proceeds to attack Riku as well, because of his appearance. Kairi helps Sora see Riku's true form, although Riku is showing obvious signs of hesitance to stay around his old friends. He goes on, to continue helping DiZ. DiZ admits to Mickey that he doesn't know if there is anyway for Riku to regain his lost appearance, and regrets having to make Riku sacrifice so much for his goals and ambitions. Trying to make it up to them all, DiZ uses a machine to try and disrupt the flow of hearts, but instead it explodes. DiZ and Riku knowing this would happen, Riku stopped anyone else, including his companions from interefering, but the aftershock of the blast hit them as well.

As they regained their composure, everyone was shocked to see that Riku, was now, looking like...Riku. Enthused by this, they carried on, the defeat the leader of the Organization, Xehanort. During the battle, with only Sora and Riku as the participating combatants, Riku jumps in the way of an attack aimed at Sora. The injury can been seen after the battle, where Riku collapses on the beach. Trapped in a world in between light and dark, Riku remarks on things past, subtly arriving to the fact that he may not want to go back home, which Sora at first does not quite catch. After finding Kairi's message, and a link appears to Destiny Islands, does all the hinting come together as Sora has difficulty trying to convince Riku not to stay behind. Ultimately, the two of them return home at long last, greeted by a smiling Kairi.

Later, a message from King Mickey arrives, leaving a shocked Kairi, blank Sora, and a smirking Riku.
